Mental health refers to our emotional, and psychological action, ideas, and thoughts. It affects how we think and feel about the various factors of this world and also our opinions. It also determines how we handle stress, and make healthy choices. Good Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood all the way through adulthood. Having bad mental health leads to depression weakness and severe illness.
Although the terms are often used interchangeably, poor mental health and mental illness different from each other. A person can experience poor mental health while not even being diagnosed with a mental illness. Similarly, a person diagnosed with mental illness can experience periods of physical, and mental well-beings.
Why is Mental Health important?
Mental and physical health are the two most fundamental components of overall health. Depression increases the risk for many types of physical health problems, like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Presence of chronic conditions can increase the risk for mental illness as well. Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well. It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, and shape the world in which we live in. Mental health is a basic human right and rightfully important. It is very important for personal and socio-economic development.
How to preserve Mental Health?
It’s important to remember that a person’s mental health can change over time, either for the good or worse, depending on many factors. When the demands placed on a person exceed their resources and coping abilities, their mental health could decline severely. For example, if someone is working long hours, caring for a relative, or experiencing economic hardship, it is very likely that they may be facing poor Mental Health. If the demands and livelihood of a person becomes manageable, they may not be facing mental problems and so can live a prosperous live. Nevertheless, it’s important to think on the bright side on every occasion no matter how much trouble a person is facing, otherwise, he will be prone to declining Mental Health.
